Agar-agar is a member of the galactan polysaccharides family. Galactan polysaccharides are long chains of sugar that are made up of 22 galactose molecules. They are very complicated. It is found in the cell walls of red algae in the class Rhodophyceae. Agar is made by several types of marine algae that can be found all over the world. Most of the agar-agar sold in stores comes from species of Gelidium and Gracilaria. Pterocladia and Gelidiella are two other species that are often used.
Bacteriological grade agar is used in clinical settings, auxotrophic studies, studies of how bacteria and yeast grow, bacterial molecular genetics, and tissue cultures from both plants and animals. The final concentration of agars in culture media is between 1% and 2%. Smaller amounts of agar (0.05–0.5%) are used in culture media for studies of motility (0.5% w/v) and the growth of anaerobes (0.1%) and microaerophiles.
Agar-agar is a natural hydrocolloid made from Gelidium and Gracilaria, two types of red seaweed. People think that these gels are more solid and durable than other gelatin or carrageenan gels. The gel strength of the product is also much higher than that of gelatin. The product also gets rid of the need to add acids, sugar, proteins, or cations to food in order to improve its texture or flavor.
Agar has a lot of fiber and is often used to help digestion, lose weight, get rid of constipation, strengthen bones, and keep people from getting anemia. It also has a lot of iron, which is important for making red blood cells. If you're feeling dizzy, short of breath, and tired, it's possible that you don't have enough iron in your body. Talk to your doctor to find out for sure.
◉ Aids Weight Loss- Agar agar has a lot of fiber, which is one of the main reasons why it can help you lose weight. When we eat agar agar, it makes us feel full for a long time. This makes us eat fewer calories overall, which helps us lose weight. In a study that followed 76 people for 4 weeks, those who ate agar agar lost a lot of weight because they ate fewer calories overall.
◉ For Strong Bones- You need vitamin D, C, and K, calcium, potassium, and magnesium for healthy bones. Agar has a good amount of manganese and calcium, so it is a good choice if you have osteoporosis or another bone disorder or if you have a family history of it.
◉ Relieves Constipation- One of the best things you can do at home to naturally treat constipation is to eat foods that are high in fiber. As a high-fiber food, agar agar can help people with constipation. It works as a natural laxative, adds bulk to stools, and helps people who are constipated get rid of their problems. Use whole fruit pulps with fiber along with agar agar to make it work even better.
◉ Rich In Important Minerals - Agar agar is full of vitamins and minerals like zinc, selenium, manganese, calcium, potassium, sodium, magnesium, phosphorus, folate, panthonic acid, niacin, riboflavin, and vitamin K. It also has a lot of iron and fiber. Most of the time, when we make desserts, we use things like white sugar and maida that don't have any nutrients. But if we can make desserts with whole fruits, fresh fruit pulp, and agar agar, they will be much healthier.
